CANADA VS USA GOLD MEDAL GAME

February 28, 2010

CURRENT SCORE:  CANADA WINS, CROSBY PULLS THROUGH!

Canada vs USA in the Gold Medal Hockey game is the fitting end for the final day of the Olympics. The Game starts at 12:15 p.m. PT.

The buzz for this game is incredible as the friendly neighbours renew their rivalry for the second time of this Olympics tournament. Team USA walked away with a 5-3 win over the Canadians when they met early on in the tournament, a shocking win for a young team with few expectations.

Team Canada was questioned after the loss, with many saying the Canadians were a disappointment for Vancouver 2010. After three consecutive wins, Canada is back in the gold medal game.

Team USA comes in after a blowout 6-1 win over Finland, and Canada just squeaked by a Slovak team who challenged until the final seconds of Team Canada’s 3-2 win.

Team USA vs Team Canada Goalie Matchup

One of the biggest matchups in the game will be between the pipes, where USA’s Ryan Miller tries to outplay Canada’s Roberto Luongo.

Canada Vs Slovakia

CANADA VS SLOVAKIA

Canada beats Slovakia to make it to the Gold medal game versus the USA!

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:

1. Brenden Morrow, Canada. The Dallas captain scored once and made some hard hits to help Canada win the game.

2. Michal Handzus, Slovakia. The huge centre did an amazing job in the last period.

3. Ryan Getzlaf, Canada.  He got the Game-winning goal and ended up with an assist.

THE MAKE OR BREAK:  With the Slovaks hanging in and trailing just 2-0, Richard Zednik took a needless holding the stick penalty on Duncan Keith at the 16:34 mark of the second period. The foul occurred 190 feet from the Slovak net and Canada made Zednik pay as Ryan Getzlaf scored 20 seconds later.  It proved to the game-winning goal.

CONCLUSION:  In Roberto Luongo’s four games in net for Canada, the team has supported him with 26 goals. He’s allowed seven … Sidney Crosby hasn’t been in on any of Canada’s 10 goals in quarter-final or semi-final round.
